Sunlight: Thoughts, Advice, Junk

--

Walk into unfamiliar rooms to the beat of your own heart.

Sunlight is perpetually temporary. Bathe in its fleeting rays before it's consumed.

Bite your nails only if you need to prove something. Otherwise, let them breathe.

It is hard to breathe when your heart is heavy.

It is easy to love when your heart is light.

Dreams are less dense than water.

Do not be afraid of grass. It will feel nice between your bare toes after your heart's been broken.

Do not pinch your temples when you have a migraine. Feel the blood pulsing in your head. Feel alive.

When your grandmother asks you how you're doing, don't lie to her. Tell her everything honestly.

Your grandmother loves you more than your mother does. Take what she gives you even if you don't want it.

Your grandmother will offer you tea in the summer. Let her make it for you.

Do not feel guilty if you look outside and feel nothing.

You must say no when your heart tells you so.

What's fixed will always be broken. Don't let this upset you.

Turn off your eyes when you go to sleep.

If you have the hiccups it is because someone is thinking about you.

Never celebrate your birthday before the actual day.

If you look at your watch today and the minutes seem to be moving slower than they were yesterday, this is because they are.

Time is different every day. Science cannot prove this, but you must believe this is true.

Eye-contact is often frightening.

You must not worry, however, because they cannot see the secrets you're keeping behind your gaze.

Do not make your heart fight with your head.

They must work together. They are old friends.

You must spit on the ground every time you pass a cemetery.

The thought of death will take your breath away sometimes. So will the stars.

Sometimes you will wake up from a deep sleep and forget you were ever alive.

This is what death feels like. It doesn't hurt.

Every mirror is different, as is every camera lens.

You will never see yourself as others see you. This is okay because you will see them as what they will never see.

Anticipation hurts more than reality.

The past hurts more than the present.

Innocence is bliss.

Ignorance is unacceptable.

You are responsible for what you know. The knowledge you have is yours alone to keep.

You never feel nauseous, only nauseated

You will feel nauseated on the open seas or in the sky, but never on flat ground.

Only you know what you're thinking. Don't let others put words in your mouth or your head.

You must treat siblings the same, even if they are "different people."

Sensitive boys are treated with more love than sensitive girls.

Sensitive girls are common. Tough girls are treated with more sarcasm than tough boys.

Soon you will realize you are a cold-blooded creature.

Lying on hot concrete is the only way to recharge your battery.

You must cover your eyes, however, because the sun can hurt you.

Warm milk will remind you of when you were six months old.

There will be things they will tell you. You must ignore them:

"The sun will rise tomorrow just as it did today. You must never believe each sunrise is unique.

"You must take only cold showers because they are refreshing and humbling. Modesty is close to godliness.

"You must apologize even when your heart doesn't mean it.

"Lasers will feel like hot needles against your skin. You must conceal your pain.

"It is in your best interest to smile at what is given to you. Your life is a gift, and we care for your safety."

Sometimes you will forgive but you will be unable to forget. This is natural.

Words speak louder than actions only when you're talking to yourself.

They are right when they say "hate" is a strong word. Think three times before you use it. The same applies to "love."

Every person has a word bank.

When you exceed the number of words you have in your word bank, you die.

No one really dies until their name stops being uttered posthumously.

You will be alone at a concert when a strange boy in a mask will ask you to dance. He is not very attractive to you.

When you reluctantly agree, you must remind yourself that you do not owe this boy anything.

It will be very loud and you will ask him multiple times to repeat what he's said.

He will ask you, honestly, if you want to kiss him. When you decline, you tell him it isn't personal.

He is respectful and doesn't take it personally. Your friends will say, "At least he was nice about it."

It irks you to think about this boy. You later learn he is three years older than you. You feel flattered/used.

Did he really think you were beautiful?

Did he really like your black leather boots?

You will never know because you blocked him when he found you online, asking, "are u the girl i danced w/ last night??"

Independence is directly proportional to maturity.

Maturity is indirectly proportional to creativity.

Electricity can be man-made.

Put your infinite love into one relationship. Do not spread your love around infinitely and without purpose.

The moon shines at night only because it mimics the sun.

Celestial objects are often jealous.

That moment before dawn holds a lifetime of infinite possibility.

Dawn is bittersweet.

Beauty is never synonymous with symmetry.

God : Religion :: Omnividence : Physics

The afterlife exists in our memories.

Your life runs parallel to the choices you didn't make.

Love is never just chemistry.

Sun : Moon :: Flashlight : Mirror

The ground seems flat only because of where you are standing. Look at the horizon; it is curved.

The same applies to time; time is not linear--it only feels that way because of the dimension we live in.

Soon you will see your birth and your death simultaneously.

Don't trust people who don't believe in love.

Believing in love is blind faith. If you don't believe in God, at least believe in love.

When you listen to music, it is listening to you. That is why soft songs will break your heart.

Your feelings are symmetrical to the notes you hear. These notes never judge you

Phobias can be genetically inherited.

No one is a carbon copy of their parents.

Always strive towards humble reality.

You will watch a movie and say, "That's sad."

Your mother will look at you with eyes that have seen almost everything. She will reply, "That's life."

This will not make sense to you--not until you are her age.

You will realize that "sad" is too simple a word. "Sad" is a word devoid of meaning.

You will realize that "life" (as you've lived it) moves in waves.

Often it will reach its crest and then its trough, but mostly it will stay at equilibrium.

You will realize (when you reach that age), that when your mother said, "That's life," this is what she meant.

But you are still not that age.

Until then, you must continue to walk into unfamiliar rooms to the beat of your own heart.
